Let me start out with this disclaimer:
This blog post is NOT sponsored. (Although, I only sponsor products/brands I love). My intentions are to share my story and testimony with you in hopes it will help if you are struggling in the same way I was. I found the solution and feel I should not keep this wonderful and life-changing news to myself.
Why A Multivitamin?
For most of my adult life, I felt as though I was lacking something in my body. I could tell I was not getting all the nutrients I needed. The feeling of sluggishness would take over on a regular basis. I did not have the energy I used to. My skin and my hair were on the struggle bus as well. – Nothing was quite the same. My immune system was even taking a toll. I was getting sick a lot easier than I used to. I found myself going to my local Nutrition World store on a regular basis. I would stock up on all the different vitamins and supplements I felt I was lacking. They helped a little but even then I still felt there was something missing.
Then, there was my breaking point. One day I had a bout of anemia. – There are several forms of Anemia but I knew mine was either from a lack of iron and/or vitamins. – Fun fact: According to the W.H.O. iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the world. It affects more than 25% of people worldwide. – It was the first day of my monthly cycle so I thought that played a role. Then, I realized . . . wait, this has never happened to me before. It was so bad that I asked Richie to wait by the bathroom while I took a shower because I felt like I was going to pass out. Luckily, I had an old bottle of iron tablets. I took one tablet for a couple of days but I didn’t know how much my body needed. Taking too much could be bad.
This was what caused my breaking point.
“This is ridiculous!” I thought to myself.
“I need a good multivitamin!”
I was spending SO Much money on bottles of vitamins and supplements yet my body was still lacking.
Every Multivitamin Caused Stomach Upset
Buying a multivitamin would be an easy solution for the average person. For me, I had tried new multivitamin after new multivitamin for years and years. To put this into perspective . . . I worked at a Pharmacy for 6 years and had access to all the best multivitamins on the market. So, why weren’t any of these working for me? Because I had a sensitive stomach, every single one caused stomach upset. When searching for a good one I noticed they were all in tablet form. I knew this was harder for my stomach to digest but that’s all I could find. Within the past several years I had even found one that was high quality, organic, and in a Chewable Gummy form. Even this one upset my stomach! I became hesitant to try any new multivitamins because of this. Plus, it sucks paying the expense for a new bottle that ends up going to waste. I’ve been there and done that too many times to count.
The One That Appeared Different Than The Rest
For over a year I had been seeing this new brand of Multivitamins on the market called Ritual. There were a few things about this one that immediately stood out to me in a positive way. My fear of wasting money on another brand of multivitamins had gotten the best of me. That is UNTIL my (Anemia) breaking point occurred. That’s when I finally decided to look into Ritual and their vitamins. Here are the 7 reasons I decided to go with Ritual and how this became the women’s multivitamin of my dreams.
1. It’s A Delayed Release Capsule!!
First, I am attracted to the fact that it was NOT a tablet. Instead, it is a “No-Nausea” capsule design with a delayed release formula. Capsules are easier for our bodies to absorb. They break down quicker than tablets and are easier on our gastrointestinal tract. This means a lesser chance of stomach upset. This is the first multivitamin I found that was in the form of a capsule and that alone was selling me. Plus, the delayed release formula means it dissolves in the more absorptive part of your gut. So, this means less sensitivity.
2. No Secrets – Complete Transparency
Second, the fact they made it completely transparent raised my confidence even more. Their capsules are see-through so you can see every ingredient it holds. Ritual also shares their clinical studies, sources, and suppliers for everyone to see. It’s pretty cool to see where in the world they collect each ingredient that makes up their vitamins.
3. Eligible Labels And Claims
As if all the above wasn’t enough to completely sell me, I saw the advertised claims on their multivitamins. The claims include Vegan, Free of Major Allergens, Gluten Free, Non-GMO, and No Artificial Colorants or Synthetic Fillers. I mean. . . SOLD, am-i-right? They offer a Women’s Multivitamin for 18+, one for 50+, and a Prenatal. My skepticism of a multivitamin working for me was disappearing. So, I clicked on their Prenatal Vitamin.
Hold on . . . No, I’m not pregnant, nor are we currently trying. Starting a Prenatal Vitamin right now is ideal for me at the stage of life I am in. This is another reason why I was anxious to find a multivitamin that could work for me. I’ve tried Prenatals in the past and would always have the same result, an upset stomach. I needed to find one that worked before we DO start trying to get pregnant.
4. It Contains Methylated Folate
One (important) thing I should disclose is that I carry the MTHFR variant gene. What is that? MTHFR is a gene that tells your body how to make Folate. What is Folate? Folate is what your body needs to make DNA and modify proteins. Since I have the “variant” MTHFR gene this means that my body doesn’t easily process Folate. People carrying this MTHFR variant gene are so common. The CDC states “…there are more people in the United States that have the variant gene than the people who do not have it.” Folate, or the man-made version of folic acid, is critical all throughout pregnancy. It’s especially important at the beginning stages. It helps promote healthy brain development in the first 28 days of pregnancy. The CDC advises taking at least 400 mcg of folic acid a day for at least a month BEFORE conceiving. This ensures the proper amount in the bloodstream to support neural tube development. Ritual’s Prenatal offers 1,000 mcg DFE (Dietary Folate Equivalent). So the amount needed is more than covered!
Now, because I have this MTHFR variant gene I have to take the methylated form of folate, this helps my body absorb it better. Well, ladies, Ritual’s Prenatal Vitamin does in fact have methylated folate! -PRAISE- So now I’m Sold x’s 10 on this vitamin!
5. It’s Cost Efficient
On top of these appealing factors, I was realizing that Ritual’s vitamins cost much less than others. I was spending between $50 – 100 per bottle in the past. Vitamins are expensive! As luck would have it Ritual’s vitamins don’t cost near that much. Excellent news because if it works I’m definitely setting this as a monthly repeat!
6. Convenience At Its Finest
This company also offers a subscription service for your vitamins. They can automatically ship to your doorstep every month as you need the next bottle. This way you conveniently never run out! Now, for me, this is a total win! I don’t have to try and remember to re-order my vitamins before I run out of my current bottle. For a busy and sometimes forgetful person, this is gold!
I purchased 1 bottle to try before committing to a monthly subscription. With my long history of multivitamin fails I was remaining a skeptic until given proof. I was anxious to open my first bottle (which was efficiently delivered) and see it all for myself.
7. The Lemon Essence
Opening my first box I am greeted with such an aesthetically pleasing package. I loved how bright and inviting it was. It also came with a little fold-open booklet. Within its context, it asked me to “Go ahead, open your bottle and give it a sniff.” This was most pleasantly surprising to find out each capsule is “Essenced with Lemon.” A citrus tab is in every bottle to keep things fresh. So when you open the bottle the scent of lemon floats to your nose. It also makes the capsules super easy to take each with a hint of lemon flavor!
Satisfaction And Peace Of Mind
As silly as it sounds, I couldn’t wait to take my first two capsules. Directions say to take in the AM or PM right before bed. Since I received my first bottle back in April (2020) I’ve been taking two Ritual Prenatal Vitamins every PM. There has only been 1 mishap I, of course, have to share with you. During the first week, I forgot the directions and took them around 4 PM instead of right before bed. I then had indigestion for the rest of the night. I’m not sure the science behind what time of day you take them. I realized this happened because I took them at the wrong time. -Oops, totally my bad!- Other than that I’ve NEVER once had an upset stomach from these vitamins y’all!!! Now you can trust me when I say these have been a Multivitamin Dream Come True!
I have been SO grateful for this company. I am so much more at ease for us to start trying to grow our family when the time comes. Now I know my body is receiving everything it needs. Peace of mind means everything! I’ve also physically felt so much better since taking them.
A Surprise Perk
I must also share this! When I went for my hair trim on the first of July my hair stylist asked me with genuine eagerness:
“I am seeing So Much new hair growth all around your head! Are you taking some new vitamins or something?!?”
I had been taking these vitamins for 3 months at this point. Healthier, thicker hair is not something I had at the forefront of my mind when looking into Ritual. But yes, a very welcomed perk to taking these vitamins is all the new hair growth! I have also been doing a couple of other things that have helped in achieve healthier hair. I use this shampoo and conditioner mentioned in my blog post “How To Know If Your Beauty Products Are Healthy Or Harmful”. The combo of that shampoo and conditioner along with these vitamins is everything! I’m convinced it’s the holy grail for hair growth.
Not only am I feeling better but my hair is growing and creating lots of new growth too. Come to think of it, my skin has also had fewer breakouts. – Winning over here!-
Multivitamin Problems Solved
If you’ve struggled to find the right multivitamin let my experience be a testament to you. I had given up hope until Ritual came along. Even my OBGYN couldn’t help me and told me to keep trying different ones until I could find one that worked. I felt so defeated – that is – until I found and tried Ritual. I can’t thank this company enough! They solved a problem with multivitamins that I know don’t only apply to me.
So fast forward to now – I’ve been on Ritual’s Prenatal Vitamin for 4 months. I’m loving it so much that I’ve never missed a dose. Ritual was exclusively focused on fulfilling the needs for Women’s Multivitamins. As soon as I saw they released a line of Men’s Multivitamins I was ecstatic! I told Richie right away so he could order some. They offer the same categories for men as they do women; Men’s Multivitamin for 18+ and Men’s 50+ minus the Prenatal. So exciting they offer this now! You and your S/O can feed your bodies these amazing vitamins together!
