The Botox Journey

A question I was given and originally thought myself was. . “Why start Botox so young?”

There was a time when I thought Botox was supposed to be kept a secret. I thought that only older people with really bad wrinkles got Botox and even then it was kept quiet like people don’t want others to know they’ve had it. Plus, I NEVER thought I would get Botox until I was like waaaay older than my current age.
So over the past decade I started hearing more and more buzz about this magical inject-able. Also on the contrary started hearing a lot of opinions and misconceptions about it. So I set out to figure it all out on my own.
As time passed I was learning new concepts of Botox and ways that it could actually help me at my age since I had started noticing some wrinkles and loss of collagen/elasticity.
So a question I was given and had originally thought myself was. . .”why start Botox so young?”
The answer: Preventative, Preventative, Preventative!!! It’s quite simple.
The REAL question is:”Why wait to get Botox until wrinkles are settled so deep in the skin?”
The truth is, once you start to see wrinkles on your face this means that loss of collagen and elasticity is happening (which naturally starts to happen in our 20’s) and it will continue to be on a decline. This means that those wrinkles will continue to sink deeper in the skin unless prevented from doing so.
I was spending all this money on product for anti-aging trying to nip the wrinkles in the bud. This was expensive and if I went a couple days without using the products my wrinkles were just as visible as ever. I was so ready to try Botox!
I knew to do a lot of research on finding who to trust with administering my Botox. This is why when I found Nurse Practitioner Cindy Wilson owner of Curate MedAesthetics I knew I was in good hands, especially after seeing her expertise put her in the top 1% of injectors nation wide.

Whenever it was brought up in conversation I noticed some common misconceptions of Botox. People would say things like they think “it makes you look fake or plastic”. I think this is the biggest misconception of them all. So the way I see it, and the way Mrs. Cindy described it perfectly, it’s like photo-shopping your face to just smooth it out. Cindy likes to do sprinkles of Botox placing it in a cosmetic way only where needed. (After-all it is called “Botox Cosmetics”) This brings back the natural youthful appearance of the skin.

I have also heard that people are afraid to put the composition of Botox in their bodies. I can understand this argument for sure, but I look at Botox kind of like how I look at medicine. There are countless medicines out there that help our bodies do different things and Botox is one of them. Yes, we think of it mostly for cosmetic purposes but it can be used for many many things. I learned recently Botox is also used to help people with medical problems such as; migraines, seizures, bladder or muscle spasms, excessive sweating, crossed eyes, bell’s palsy, spasmodic dysphonia and the list goes on.
Also, I might add it’s wonderful to be careful what you put in and on your body. I highly recommend looking into all the products that you use on your skin as well to be sure they don’t consist of any hidden heavy metals or other harmful ingredients. Our skin is an organ and absorbs into our bodies whatever we put on it!
I asked Cindy for her advice for someone wanting to try Botox for the first time and she says: “I can’t wait for them to try it! We can do an assessment to see the areas of concern and make recommendations to turn up their pretty. It’s about making a better version of yourself. Make sure to go to a Nurse Practitioner or MD, someone that has a lot of experience, someone that’s going to give you a pretty result not just freeze your lines or take your money.” Cindy’s slogan is “I don’t care about your lines, I care about your pretty!” Love This because sometimes lines can be pretty! She likes to do sprinkles of Botox so that your face is filled with light.
So the takeaway here is – focus on the pretty and not necessarily the lines.

Consider this: Did you guys know, when we look at ourselves in the mirror, if our faces naturally look droopy or frown(y) then the mirror neurons (real thing our brains have) are activated in our brains to make us feel more droopy or sad. -What we see is what we begin to feel. When we see ourselves looking youthful, glowy, and happy it reflects those feelings in our brain. Pretty cool how Botox can scientifically help us look and feel happier!

It’s crazy the difference I can see with what little Botox I’ve received the light that has been brought back to my face from a bit of lift here and there. I feel it was all very subtle changes but still make all the difference!

I personally decided to move forward with Botox when I was getting a forehead line that wasn’t going away and it creased my makeup so bad it made the line look 10x worse. My mirror neurons were NOT happy about this 😀 I also like to get rid of my crows feet beside my eyes, and also the 11’s in between my eyebrows. It feels so good to have that airbrushed look and the best part of all is No Makeup Creasing!!

Another big question I see is how much does Botox cost?? -The usual rate I’ve seen is around $12 per unit and the amount of units used will be specific to each persons needs. It could be anywhere from 20-40 +/- units.

If you are serious about Botox I would keep the focus on going to the best possible person out there and do your research! I personally love Cindy and am so happy I found her and Curate MedAesthetics! She even has you schedule a 2 week follow up after your original appointment to see the difference that was made and add any touch ups if necessary.
